Waiting for your Google Business Profile (GBP) verification postcard can be one of the most frustrating parts of setting up your local presence. You've requested it, but it's been weeks, and nothing has shown up.
This is a common problem, but don't worry. Here’s a clear, step-by-step guide on what to do when your postcard never arrives.
Step 1: Wait at Least 14 Full Days
First, be patient. Google states that postcards can take 5 to 14 business days to arrive. Due to postal delays, holidays, or your region, it can sometimes take even longer. Before you do anything else, wait at least 14 full days from your request.
Step 2: Double-Check Your Business Address
The most common reason a postcard fails to arrive is an incorrect address. Log back into your Google Business Profile and very carefully check the address you entered.
Is the street name and number 100% correct?
Did you include a suite number, unit number, or office number?
Is the postal code correct?
An incomplete or incorrect address means the postcard was sent to the wrong place, or the post office couldn't deliver it.
Step 3: Request a Replacement Postcard (Use Sparingly)
If 14 days have passed and you've confirmed your address is correct, you can request a new postcard.
Sign in to your Google Business Profile Manager.
Go to the verification code page.
Click the link to request another postcard (it may say "Post again" or "Mail again").
Important: Do not request postcards repeatedly. Every time you request a new postcard, the code on the previous one becomes invalid. Requesting too many in a short period can delay the process and confuse the system.
Step 4: Switch to a Faster Verification Method
If the postcard fails again, or you want to skip the wait, you should try to switch to an alternative (and often faster) verification method.
The Best Alternative: Video Verification
This is now a common and reliable way to get verified. Instead of waiting for mail, you'll schedule a video call with Google to prove your business is real.
How to Request Video Verification:
Go to the Google Business Profile Help Form.
Select the business profile you're trying to verify.
In the text box, type your issue, such as "Postcard did not arrive" or "Request video verification."
Select the best-matching category (e.g., "Fix postcard issue").
Fill out the contact form that appears. Choose "Email" as your preferred contact method.
Google support will typically email you to schedule the video call. During the call, they will ask to see things like:
Your business location (storefront, office, or home setup).
Permanent business signage.
Tools of your trade or inventory.
Proof you can access the location (e.t., unlocking the door).
If your business qualifies, you can be verified within 1 to 3 days after the call.
Other Possible Methods
Depending on your business category and history, Google may offer you other options on the verification screen:
Phone or SMS Verification: Instantly verifies with a code sent to your business phone.
Email Verification: Sends a code to an official business email (e.g.,
you@yourdomain.com).Instant Verification: If your website is already verified with Google Search Console, you may be eligible for instant verification.
When to Contact Google Support Directly
If you're stuck in a loop and can't get other methods to appear, you'll need to contact support directly using the GBP Help Form.
When you fill out the form, be ready to provide:
Your name and relationship to the business (e.g., Owner).
The email address used to manage the profile.
Your business name (exactly as it appears on Google).
A clear explanation that your postcard never arrived and you need an alternative method.
Be prompt in replying to any follow-up emails from Google to keep the process moving.
